George L. Johns, 90 of Huntington passed away at 3:00 am on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. George was a graduate of University of Illinois. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He lived in Wisconsin and Illinois before moving to Huntington to work for Orton-McCullough Crane Co.. He worked at Knights of Columbus Insurance and as a driver for Pizza Hut. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. George loved to fish, carve wood and had many collections, he also enjoyed cross word puzzles and Sudoku puzzles, and smoking his pipe. He was a man of many talents and loved gardening in his flower gardens. George was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He strongly influenced his family and will be truly and deeply missed.

George was born on July 18, 1926 in Waukegan, Illinois, the son of Phillip and Cecilia (Duffrin) Johns.

He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Howard on September 2, 1950 in Waukegan, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2015.

Survivors include six daughters: Kathy Johns of Payette, Idaho; Karen (Rick) Chesterman of Huntington; Mary (Sam) Lash of Rome City; Ivy (Kevin) Selig of Andrews; Lenore (Bill) Larsen of Ft. Wayne; Carolyn (Chris) Bucher of Huntington; four sons: Steve (Marcy) Johns of Dominican Republic; Thomas (Jeanne) Johns of Huntington; Robert Johns of Ft. Wayne; Leonard Johns of Florida; five sisters; 30 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Nancy Johns, Judith Johns; two sons: Phillip Johns, Charles Johns; two brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10:00 am at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made out to Cancer Society in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
