Geneva Yvonne Goins-Shockey, 79, Jonesboro, went to be with the Lord at 3:40 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born in Scottsboro, Alabama, to the late Albert Louis and Mary Susie (Brownfield) Potter. She married her first husband, Lawrence Hugh Goins, and he died on April 17, 1998. She then married William Wesley Shockey, Jr., and he died on April 2, 1998.

Geneva worked as a packer and other various positions over the years which included Foster Forbes, Glass Containers, Owens-Illinois, and Blackford County Hospital, where she was a nursing assistant. She was very active with the Jonesboro Historical Society and was a member of both Main Street Wesleyan and Red Hat Society, Jonesboro.

Geneva was well-known for her good sense of humor and how she could make people laugh. She loved serving others in her community and, therefore, made hats and toboggans for the kids at Westview and Eastview Wesleyan churches, as well as regularly played cards with the veterans at the Veteran’s Administration. The same time every day, Geneva would have coffee with her brother. She also enjoyed quilting and dearly loved her dogs.

Survivors include her children, Larry (Sharon) Goins, Gas City, Bobby (Pamela) Goins, Jonesboro, Kathy (Michael) Brown, Jonesboro, and Wayne (Sherry) Goins, Cartersville, Georgia; brother, Baxter Potter, Gas City; grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Goins, Angela Goins, Amanda (Adam) Grubb, Alaina Goins, Shane (Jennifer) Goins, and Jason (Rachal) Goins; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Geneva’s life will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Kenny Dykhoff officiating. Burial will follow at Marion National Cemetery.
