Geneva S. Thornell

Geneva S. Thornell, 98, Fishers, died at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers. She was born in Nancy, Kentucky, on March 6, 1920, to the late Elmer and Dica (Dause) Schoolcraft. She married Clyde Thornell, Jr., and he preceded her in death.

In 1952, Geneva and her husband, Clyde, became owner/operators of Thornell’s TV Service. She retired in 1979 after 27 years of service. In that same year, she became Deputy Franklin Township Assessor and served in this capacity until 1986. She was a 50-year member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, as well as a member of Mother’s Forum, Fun Forum Home Economics, Marion Community Schools PTA, and Bunco Club. She attended First United Methodist Church and Grace Community Church.

Geneva enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and wintering in Florida. She loved music, playing piano, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and sewing. Geneva especially loved spending time with her family and playing games with her grandkids.

She is survived by her sons, Clyde W. (Valerie) Thornell, III, Marion, and Garry L. (Barb) Thornell, Marion; daughter, Dixie D. (David) Hensley, Fishers; sister, Pauline Biddle, Colorado; grandchildren, Eric (Traci) Hensley, Fishers, Kent (Kristin) Thornell, Texas, Amanda (Jeremy) Welu, Fishers, and Garry A. (fiancée, Jessica Czeck) Thornell, Gas City; great-grandchildren, Zachary Hensley, Cameron Hensley, Hudson Welu, SavannahWelu, and Jensen Welu; and Cheryl Thornell, mother of Kent and Amanda.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Zelma Beeson, and her brother, John Schoolcraft.

The family will receive visitors from 1 to 2:30 p.m. with Geneva’s funeral service beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory.
