Frederick S. “Fred” Craw

Frederick S. “Fred” Craw, 96 of Fairmount, Indiana died Monday May 16, 2016 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, Florida.

 

Fred was born on December 13, 1919 at home in Fairmount, Indiana to the late John Craw and the late Mande George Craw.   He had two sisters:  Lavedah Craw and Charlene Craw Mitchener, both deceased.  He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1939 and started farming.  Fred and Florence E. Hall of Gaston were united in marriage February 9, 1947 at Grant United Methodist Church where they are still members.  Fred loved to travel, fish and was a master carver, creating many beautiful carvings especially birds.  After Fred finished carving he would pass them on Florence for painting.  He and Florence spent 32 winters in Florida where he taught a carving class for twenty-five years while residing in Raintree Park, North Ft. Myers.  Fred was a 4-H leader, DeKalb seed corn dealer, and a Farm Bureau member.

 

Fred and Florence were blessed with three children;

Steve (Connie) Craw, Gas City, IN

Richard (Mary) Craw, Upland, IN

Elaine Cherry Stewart who is deceased.

Fred also leaves seven grandchildren;  Mike Cherry, Sheila Cook, Shanna Parsley, Diana Chambers, Melissa Susong, Chris Craw and Brian Craw and 14 great-grandchildren, two step great-granddaughters, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana.  The family will received friends on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 2-6 PM at the funeral home.  Funeral Service honoring Fred’s life will be on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Constance Cherry officiating.  Graveside service and burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Grant United Methodist Church or Habitat for Humanity or a preferred charity of your choice in care of the funeral home.
