Frederick L. “Butch” Adkins

Butch was born in Marion to the late Paul E. and Verna Faye (Hayes) Adkins, Sr. He passed away on Wednesday in Marion General Hospital.

After completing his education Butch went to work for the former Essex Wire. He retired in 1983. On May 13, 1978 he married Sandra Cummings. He and Sandra were life long friends and enjoyed their three children and many grandchildren.

In his free time Butch enjoyed watching football, NASCAR, bingo and was a member of several different bowling leagues over the years where he was an accomplished bowler. He especially loved watching his granddaughters play softball and in his early years he enjoyed fishing.

Butch is survived by three daughters, Frances F. Adkins, Joanna M. Adkins and Patrisha L. (Jose) Trejo, all of Marion; his lifelong friend, Sandra Cummings Adkins, Marion; three brothers, Paul E. “P.J.” Adkins, Jr., Tennessee; Donald Adkins and Chester Julian, both of Marion; step-brother, Jimmy (Stacy) Henry, Marion; three sisters, Thelma Holland, Kentucky; Paula (Willard) Gross, Tennessee; Millie (Randy Gregory) Adkins; three step-sisters, Mary (Steve) Cornett and Wilma Crouse, both of Marion; Lora Ellis, Denver, Indiana; 9 grandchildren, Denaia Rice, Karissa Adkins, Kylae Adkins, Patrick Adkins, Kaylei Adkins, Alejandra Trejo, Dakota Adkins, Sharae Hewitt and Jose Manzo, Jr.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Adkins, Sr.; mother and step-father, Verna Faye (Hayes) and Leon Henry; five brothers, Johnny Adkins, Chucky Adkins, Albert Adkins, Danny Adkins, Oren Adkins; one step-brother, Eddie Henry; one sister, Loretta Lewis.

The celebration of Butch’s life will be held at 4pm on Monday, November 20, 2017 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel,2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 2pm until services on Monday in the funeral home.
