Eugene Edgar Rasmussen, 84, Peru, Indiana went to heaven to be with his parents and son on February 4, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. at Fort Wayne Lutheran. Gene was born on August 27, 1932 in Peru, Indiana to August and Dorothy (Schmidt) Rasmussen.

He married Marceline (Shoemaker) Rasmussen on January 22, 1955 and she survives. He is also survived by a brother, Leonard (Dutch) and Joann Rasmussen; two sons, Gary (Alyona) Rasmussen of Maryland and Allen Rasmussen of Peru; three daughters, Gina (Richard) Opelt of Peru, Tammy Bammerlin of Peru and Debbie Williams of Peru. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gene also coached baseball for 32 years, a game that he loved dearly. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 40 years. He played basketball for the for the church for over 34 years and this is how he met his wife Marceline.

In Gene’s younger days he owned the Red Dot Trophy Shop for 10 years and the railroad for several years. Gene also worked as an electrician until he was no longer able to do so. He was a sergeant in National Guard for years.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ben Rasmussen; two sisters, Ruth Ann Rademaker and Maxine Perry; a son, Zane Rasmussen; a grandson Kerry Michael Rasmussen; a niece Velba Krieg and his loving four legged companion Brownie.

Funeral services to honor the life of Gene are scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 1 p.m., friends may visit the family at Riverview Funeral Home from 12 p.m. until the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made out to the funeral home to offset the expenses.
