Eugene C. “Gene” Worden, age 87, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday September 28, 2017, at his home. He graduated from Roanoke High School in 1947, and served in the US Navy from 1949-1953 on the USS Union, then served in the Naval Reserves. He worked at International Harvester for 39 years, retiring in 1982, and as a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed working with his sons at Green Velvet Turf Farms after he retired from International Harvester. He enjoyed watching his four grandchildren in school and 4-H activities.
Gene was born January 22, 1930, in Allen County, the son of Roy and Fern (McNamara) Worden. On June 17, 1955, he married his beloved wife of 62 years Jo Ellen Fluke in Huntington and she survives in Roanoke. Also surviving are 2 sons Robert E. Worden and Mark Worden both of Roanoke, 2 daughters Marsha (Don) Poulson of Warren and Brenda (Mike) Norwood of Roanoke, and 4 grandchildren Landon Poulson, Braydon Poulson, Brody Norwood and Jami Jo Norwood.
Visitation will be held Sunday October 1 from 2-8 pm at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes and 10–11 am Monday October 2 prior to the 11:00 am Funeral Service at the funeral home. Rev. Kellie Herber will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
