Emma Louise Garrett, 68, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017, at home with her family by her side. She was born on September 24, 1948 in Missouri to the late Elbert Hollis and Margaret Irene (Jennings) Ponder. She met her soul mate, Dennis Garrett, and they were married on October 11, 1966. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2000.

Emma loved to garden and watch NASCAR and she always enjoyed a good party. She was such a great cook that her biscuits and gravy were very well known. She was very family oriented. She loved others more than she loved herself. She loved to be around her family. She was an amazing wife, parent, grandparent, and friend. Everyone who met her didn’t get away without a loving hug. In one word, she was described as a saint.

Emma is survived by her 2 sons, Scott and wife Le Anne Garrett, Marion and Brian Garrett, Noblesville; 6 grandchildren, Devin Kendall, Kelsie Garrett, Casey Garrett, Myranda Barnett, Colton Garrett, and Kenzie Soultz; 2 great grandchildren, Greyson Thomason and Amaya Kendall, 5 sisters-in-law, Patsy Slaven, Eaton, Mary Garrett, Wolcottville, Judy Whittenburg, IL, Julie Whittenburg, Marion, and Shirley Garrett, SC; several nieces and nephews, and many adults and kids who were like children and grandchildren to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Margaret Ponder, husband and soul mate, Dennis Garrett, son Denney Dale Garrett, 7 brothers, John, Charles, Mike, Jeff, Donald, Bill, and Robert, 2 sisters, Eva and Martha, 2 brothers-in-law, Frankie and Bobby Garrett, and sister-in-law, Betty Dotts.

Arrangements for Emma’s care have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services Fairmount Chapel, 415 S. Main St. Fairmount, Indiana 46928, where a visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 2-4:00 pm. A funeral service honoring her selfless life will follow the visitation at 4:00 pm with Leo Moore officiating.
