Ellen L. (Betscher) Hubbard Adamson, 86, Marion, IN, met her Lord and Savior at 5:58 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN. She was born in Hamilton, OH, as the only child to the late Elbert L. and Emma C. (Waite) Betscher Jessup. The family moved to Colorado, where Ellen spent her early years. They then returned to the Cincinnati, OH, and Brookville, IN, areas during her school years.

In 1957, Ellen made Marion, IN, her permanent residence. While at a restaurant, Ellen was asked by a certain gentleman if she would like to dance. That gentleman, Dwight “Whitey” M. Adamson, became her future husband, and they never stopped dancing after that. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, and their abilities were admired by many. Together, they were well-known breeders of miniature white Schnauzers. Ellen and Whitey were married on May 27, 1973, and they shared 43 years together until his death on November 15, 2012.

Ellen made her career as a dental hygienist. She worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Marion for 35 years and previously with Gorman Center for Orthodontics and First Federal Savings, both in Marion. She was very active in her community, including being a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Marion, Master Gardener, an annual campaign poll worker, and an avid golfer.

Jokester, feisty, determined, and strong lady were just a few adjectives that described Ellen. Holidays, lake cook-outs, and boating were some of her most memorable times because she loved being with her family. One of the things she will be best remembered for is her great skill of candy-making and artistic talents. Her grandchildren were her world and she couldn’t get enough of them. She would take them to movies, dinners, “Big Lots”, and church.

Ellen leaves behind her beloved children, Robert “Darrell” Hubbard, Gas City, Karen Hall, Hartford City, and Elaine Laux, North Webster; her beautiful grandchildren whom she adored, April (Roger) Dickey, Gas City, Aaron Hall, Hartford City, Megan (Justin) Swift, Hartford City, Paul (Randee) Laux, Goshen, and Allison (Kevin) Hurley, Lebanon, OH; and her wonderful and precious 11 great-grandchildren!

Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Ellen’s life will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Sonnefield officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, 63424 Constitution Dr., Fort Wayne, IN 46804, or Marion-Grant County Humane Society, 505 S. Miller Ave., Marion, IN 46953.

Finally at peace and comfort, Ellen is once again dancing in the heavens above with her true love, “her little Whitey”!
