Ellen C. Strandlund, 89 of Huntington passed away at 8:12 pm on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor. Ellen was a 1945 graduate of High School in Pennsylvania. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from West Chester University in 1948. Ellen taught school for 9 years, the first 8 years in Pennsylvania and then in Montana. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She volunteered over the years with Special Education groups. She loved classical music including theatre and the arts. Ellen loved animals; she enjoyed horses and loved to ride her horse “Melody” in her younger years. She enjoyed dogs, having as many as 9 at one time.
Ellen was born on March 28, 1927 in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of John F. and Ellen (McMurray) Obrien.
She was united in marriage to Doyle Strandlund on June 15, 1957 in Pennsylvania. Her husband survives.
Additional survivors include a son: Steven (Jean) Strandlund of Columbia City; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Gary Strandlund, a daughter: Paula Sue Strandlund and a brother: John J. Obrien.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11:00 am following visitation at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Stephen Colchin officiating.
Entombment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
