Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Schreiber McClain, 93,  a resident of Willow Valley Retirement Community, Willow Street, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2016, with her daughter by her side.

Born August 23, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Philip Raymond and Marguerite Elizabeth DuPree Schreiber.   On June 8, 1946, in Philadelphia, she was married to Eugene Earl McClain who preceded her in death on April 8, 2008.

Elizabeth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania having moved her membership from Green Lane United Methodist Church in Roxborough, where she served as church treasurer for many years in addition to filling various leadership roles with the women’s organization and Sunday school program.

She was a graduate of Frankford High School before attending Drexel University where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. She retired as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School Library after leaving her post as Director of the International Hospitality Program, a position she held for many years.   She was also the recipient of the Four Chaplains Award for service from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in Valley Forge.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Anne Cosgrove, Hilliard, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn B. McClain, Baltimore, Maryland; three grandchildren, Katherine F. McClain (Derrick Lavender), Hummelstown, PA; Alexandra B. McClain (Caleb Reiber), Harrisburg, PA; and Sam M. Cosgrove, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Derrick McClain Lavender, Hummelstown; and Philip Weston Reiber, Harrisburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Philip Earl McClain.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Heritage Chapel of George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, 80 Stenton Ave, Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania 19462.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
