Drew Anthony Hobbs

Drew Anthony Hobbs, 23, Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was born in Evansville on October 18, 1993, and the son of Thomas and Paula (Schmidt) Hobbs.

Drew was a 2012 graduate of Oak Hill High School and was just shy of receiving his Bachelor’s degree.  His military career began after graduation when he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He then went on to basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia, and completed the U.S. Army Air Assault School in 2014.  After completion of basic training, he enrolled at Ball State University as an ROTC candidate.  He was inducted into the Order of the Spur and was one of only four Indiana ROTC candidates to have ever completed the “Spur Ride”.  Drew was proud to be a third generation family member to serve in the military.

The middle child, Drew grew up with two sisters, Valerie Hobbs, Indianapolis, and Krista Hobbs, Bloomington. He was an intellectual, deep thinker and avid reader. Drew was very charming with a witty sense of humor. His smile and laughter were contagious, and he had the ability to make anyone laugh in any situation. He was great at telling stories. He liked to share his passions and get others involved in them with him. He had a very sentimental side and loved babies, and he couldn’t wait to have kids of his own.

Drew loved watching movies and enjoyed listening to music. He also loved his family dearly and treasured the times he and his dad played video games. He made his parents very proud and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents and sisters, he is survived by his grandfather, Carl Foxworthy, Marion, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Carol Hobbs, Thomas Hobbs, and Linda Foxworthy, as well as his best friend, Grant Perkins.

The family will have a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at College Wesleyan Church, 200 E. 38th St., Marion, IN. There will be a private burial at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
