Dorothy M. Damron

Dorothy M. Damron, 88, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 1:43 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion.  She was born on July 3, 1929, to the late George and Nancy (Hampton) Newsom.  Dorothy married Paul Damron on October 31, 1952, and he survives.

Dorothy began her teaching career in Kentucky, where she taught for nine years.  After moving to Indiana, she taught two years at McCulloch Middle School.  Dorothy enjoyed reading, watching politics on Fox News, and playing along with the TV game show, Wheel of Fortune.  She was a huge UK Wildcats basketball fan.  Dorothy attended Grace Community Church while in Marion and The Family Church in Marco Island, Florida.  While at the church in Florida, she enjoyed participating in the small group that was affiliated with that church.  She enjoyed her retirement even more by spending her winters in Naples, Florida.

She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 65 years, Paul; daughter, Karen Nichols, Marion; son, Gregory (Lucinda) Damron, Payton, Colorado; grandchildren, Corinne (Riley), Travis, Brett (Brittany), and Tony; and great-grandchildren, Dalton, Darah, Lio, Tiyannah, Danae, Trinity, Ryder, and baby River on the way.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were nine brothers and five sisters.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
