Dorothy Evelyn Bullock, 92, passed away on June 5, 2016 at 10:48 A.M., in her home surrounded by her family. Leaving her dearly loved family, Dorothy peacefully entered her eternal home to meet her Lord. She was born on December 10, 1923 in McClean County, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Mallie Adams. Dorothy was the fourth of seven children and the last surviving child of her family. Dorothy graduated from Ridge High School in Van Wert, Ohio in 1941. Upon graduation she moved to Bunker Hill, IN where she was a telephone operator. She met William Paul Bullock and they were married on June 13, 1943 while Bill was home on furlough from the Army. They had five children and were married 63 years. During the time her husband owned Bullock’s Standard Service station, Dorothy spent many years being the bookkeeper. Upon Bill’s retirement in 1988, Dorothy traveled with her husband in their motor coach throughout the country. They also enjoyed traveling to other parts of the world. Viewing America’s beautiful countryside, the ocean-side, playing golf, and visiting with family and friends were greatly enjoyed. Upon her husband’s death in 2006, Dorothy spent time visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy’s interests included her church, spending time with family and friends, reading, crocheting, knitting, watching birds, walking with friends and the Republican Party. Wherever Dorothy was she enjoyed sharing conversation and fellowship with everyone. While her children were growing up, Dorothy was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday school teacher and served on Grant Schools PTA. She was fondly referred to as “my other mother” by many of her children’s friends. Throughout Dorothy’s life she was involved in many community and church organizations. She served on the Miami County Election Board until the age of 85. She was a member of PEO, Christian Women, and Home Ec Club. Dorothy attended the Peru Church of the Brethren until 1981 and the Loree Brethren Church until her death. Dorothy is survived by two sons and three daughters; Michael and his wife Lana of Peru, Mary and her husband Mark Donaldson of Peru, Janet and her husband Jim Cattin of Bangor, Maine, Jane and her husband Tom Hopewell of Winamac and Jack of Winterport, Maine. Dorothy has 16 grandchildren. 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul, her granddaughter Angela Hopewell and six brothers and sisters. A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home with her family and friends. This will be a time of conversation, fellowship and reflection. A service will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M., with her son-in-law Rev. Thomas Hopewell officiating with burial to follow in the Rankin Cemetery, Bunker Hill, IN. Those who wish to remember Dorothy in a special way may make a contribution in her memory to Riley Children’s Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
