Dorothy (Bates) Demurray, 96 of Huntington passed away at 7:50 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Oakbrook Village. Dorothy had worked at Pyle Industries for 6 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Bethesda Freewill Baptist Church in Andrews and was also affiliated with the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Disabled Veterans Auxiliary.
Dorothy was born on February 18, 1920 in Letcher County, Kentucky the daughter of Rev. Willie and Susan (Smith) Bates.
She was united in marriage to Woodrow W. Demurray in June of 1982. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Survivors include a daughter: Laverne (Henry) McCoart of Huntington; a son: Lowell (Catherine) Hall of Russell Springs, KY; a sister: Ruth Huff of Bevinsville, KY; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Hargis Bates, Noel Bates, Gomer Bates, Hobert Bates, Homer Bates and a sister: Lida Bates Jones.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Todd Masters officiating.
Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
