Donald Ray Cranor, 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 26, 2016. He died in his home with his wife by his side after a lengthy fight with cancer. He was born May 5, 1930 at Sycamore Indiana, the son of Arthur and Alta (Trott) Cranor and lived his entire life in that area. He was married to Ellen Douglass on November 19, 1950 at the home of the bride.

Don was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Township H.S. He had fond memories of playing on the Jackson Stonewalls basketball team. Don went to work at Chrysler (Local 685) following graduation and worked there for 45 years, retiring in 1995. He served in the United States Army for two years.

Don was a member of the Converse Church of Christ. He was a longtime member of the Greentown Lions Club and enjoyed working at the Howard County 4-H fair. He loved his garden, mushroom hunting and tending the woods that he planted on his property. His pride was his family, who always had priority in his life. He and his family cherished the weeks spent at Lake Webster with close friends. He and his wife traveled all over the country after his retirement, visiting numerous National Parks and other attractions with their camper. They spent winters in Florida enjoying fellowship and playing Euchre and with friends from Grandma’s Grove.

He is survived by Ellen, his wife of almost 66 years. He is also survived by his three children, Barbara (Leo) Melle, Jeff (Kathy) Cranor, and Paula Arnold; Eight grandchildren, Shane (Jessica) Miller, Emily (Jeff Dever), Anne (Brent Green), John Cranor, Chris Arnold, Maria (Scott Peterson), Derek Arnold, and Heidi Cranor. Also eight great grandchildren, Korbin, Kamp, and Kreed Miller, Riley, Althea, and Declan Green, Sonora Dever, and Connor Peterson.

Visiting with the family will be Friday, September 30, 2016 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Converse Church of Christ, 301 East Wabash Street, Converse, with the Celebration of Life immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ark Ministries Christian Camp or the Converse Church of Christ Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 East Marion Street, Converse.
