Donald “Don” R. Cartwright, Sr.

Donald “Don” R. Cartwright, Sr., 88, Marion, died at 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Colonial Oaks Healthcare Center in Marion. He was born in Marion on September 25, 1929, to the late Earl and Frances (Jurisic) Cartwright. On December 23, 1948, Don married Joan Alter, and she preceded him in death on March 6, 1984.

Following his two-year military service with the U.S. Army, Don worked as a dispatcher at C.W. Transport until his retirement. He was an avid country music fan, and he loved to go hunting, fishing, metal detecting, and target shooting. Don also enjoyed playing guitar and had a great interest in motorcycles.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna (Steve) Turner, Van Buren, and Diana Tegarden, Zionsville; son, Donald Cartwright, Jr., Zionsville; granddaughter, Amanda Lines; great-grandchildren, Cami Guerin and Caleb Guerin; sister, Sharon Newton, Muncie; several nieces and nephews; and ex-wife with whom he still remained friends, Patricia Cartwright.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rainelle Goodrich.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the funeral home with nephew, Father David Newton, officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
