Deloris J. Laird, 88, Amboy, IN and Bradenton, FL, went home to heaven to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. She was born in Marion, IN on February 4, 1928, the daughter of Willard Franklin and Mary Ellen Zent Smith. Deloris married Robert D. Melton on September 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1958. She married Warren E. Laird on December 1, 1963 and he survives. Deloris was a member of the Amboy Friends Church and attended Orange Grove Free Methodist Church in Bradenton, FL. She and her husband Warren owned and operated the Laird Funeral Home in Amboy. She served as secretary for the Park Lawn Cemetery. She was a former member of the Miami County Historical Society and the OES #334 of Converse, IN. She enjoyed reading, sewing, bicycling, traveling and playing cards. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Surviving in addition to her husband Warren is a daughter Connie (Melton) and her husband David Mygrant, of Rochester, IN, step-daughter Jill (Laird) and her husband Kent Hoilman, Highlands Ranch, CO, a step-son Dennis Laird and Lynn Albers of Gypsum, CO ;grandchildren Jeff (Faith) Mygrant, Jason (Jody) Mygrant, Jennifer (Jeff) Troyer, Alex Hoilman, Kimberly Hoilman and Colleen Ross; great-grandchildren Chanse Mygrant, Hope Mygrant, Hannah Troyer, Sam Troyer and Tory Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert D. Melton, a sister Ruth Davenport and brothers Robert Smith and John (Jackie) Smith. A service celebrating the life of Deloris J. Laird will be held at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main Street, Amboy, IN at 2:00 PM, Monday September 12, 2016 with Pastor Dwight Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 2:00-6:00 PM, Sunday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to the Amboy Friends Church or Orange Grove Free Methodist Church, Bradenton, FL.
