David William Ernest George “Scotty” of Peru died unexpectedly the morning of February 27, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born in the Sub-District of Stockton-Heath in the county of Chester, England, May 2, 1940 to Wilfred and Jean MacCallum George. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eva Wargo George, daughter Cheryl Stouder (husband Kent), son David (wife Julie), 2 granddaughters Hannah and Claire. David is also survived by a sister Diane Regeski (husband Walt) of Georgia and brother Kenneth of Great Britain, and a brother-in-law Gerald Gardner. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Jean George and his sister Sheila Gardner. This man had no enemies and knew no stranger. Storytelling and making people feel great were natural traits that he readily practiced. His love of life, wife and family was evident in how he lived each day. First Presbyterian Church, Peru, Indiana was his church since the 1960’s where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder. His British heritage shone brightly, proud of his homeland was easily observed and could be heard through his thick accent that never left wavered and always was a trademark. David came to the United States in 1960. A man that literally had $60 in his pocket, he was destined to see and learn the American dream. That he did. Meeting his future wife Eva Wargo at the First Presbyterian Church, in Galion Ohio, they were married September 30, 1962. Not yet a U.S. citizen, he was drafted and proudly served 4 years in the United States Air Force as a flight instructor, working in the pressure chambers. He chose the Air Force, so that he could be stationed at Grissom Air Force Base and close to Eva’s family and his sister Sheila who was residing in Ohio. David waited until 1976 to become a citizen. He wanted to wait for the bicentennial and was a proud Scottish- American, never leaving his homeland, but loving our country. He respected all things American and was troubled by those that were perceived to disrespect our country/flag or military. An artist by trade, David was an incredible wallpaper hanger and painter extraordinaire. He was educated in his trade in Scotland, prior to arriving in the States. In the 70’s he went to work for General Motors- Delco, Kokomo, Indiana where he continued to use his skills on the maintenance department, and he took immense pride in his work. He retired from Delco, but continued to take care of his lifelong friends and clients, right to the very end. He seldom could tell a person no and took tremendous pride in his craft. A lover of sports – including the Chicago Bears, Indiana Hoosiers, Indy 500 and most of all his beloved Chicago Cubs, he was the consummate “sports” fan who would listen on the radio and occasionally attending in person. He loved to play cards at the Maennerchor and was a former member of both the Peru Lions Club and Peru Moose. Visitation will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 from 3:00-7:00 PM, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. A service celebrating the life of David “Scotty” George will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. Military Graveside services and the Gordon Pipers bagpipes will be immediately following at Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru. A wake will occur at the Maennerchor. Details will be at the visitation.
