David Earl Snyder left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb 19, 2016, at Blair Ridge Health Campus, Peru, Indiana, with his family by his side.
David was born in South Bend, Indiana, on March 9, 1929, to the late Earl and Clara E. Fincher Snyder. The family moved to Miami County, Indiana, where he grew up and graduated from Jefferson Township High School. He was married to Joan W. Raber on June 26, 1950, and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2013, after nearly sixty-three years of marriage.
David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the war, he and Joan adopted a beautiful daughter, Cindy, in 1955. They later adopted another beautiful daughter, Valorie, in 1958, and in 1960, they were blessed with the birth of their third beautiful daughter, Lisa.
David grew up on the farm, helping his father and later took over the farm when his father passed away. He loved farming and retired in April of 1994.
David was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a Godly man and a member of the Mexico Baptist Church, where he served as Moderator and a Deacon for many years. He also served as a Trustee and helped to build the new addition to the church. In 1975, he and Joan served as missionaries in Nicaragua.
His hobbies included wood carving, square dancing, playing golf, boating, and camping with his family. When David retired from farming, he and Joan traveled during the winter months to Florida.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cindy (David) Murphy, Valorie (Charles) Cole, and Lisa (Jeff) Wooten, all of Peru; three grandchildren, Laura (Jeremy) Flaherty, Danville, IN; Leslie (John) Flynn, West Lafayette, IN; and Ian Wooten, Cincinnati, OH; four great grandchildren, Fionnegan and Eamon Flaherty, and Aubrey and Brayden Flynn; three sisters, Anita Burrous, Indianapolis, IN; Virginia Langston, Debary, FL; and Vivian (Tom) Clark, Loveland, CO; and a host of nieces and nephews.
David’s “Going Home” celebration will at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, at Mexico Baptist Church with his son-in-law, Pastor Charles Cole, and Pastor Jay Nickless officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, with Military Rites presented by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Viewing will be from 4-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at the church.
