Darlene (Love) Boen

Darlene (Love) Boen, 83, Marion, went to be with the Lord in her home at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. She was born in Marion on October 16, 1934, to the late Dane and Cleo (King) Love and married William Dale Boen on March 19, 1954. Darlene shared 61 years with her husband until he passed on July 26, 2015.

Darlene graduated from Marion High School in 1952. She was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed sewing, cooking (especially chicken and noodles and chocolate chip cookies), and crocheting. Darlene even made her daughters’ wedding cakes and bridesmaid dresses.

She had a true servant’s heart, whether it was church, family, or whomever. She served all. Darlene was a member of South Marion Friends Church, where she was actively involved in many areas of ministries. She played piano and organ for at least 30 years and played in the church’s Bell Choir. Darlene loved her family dearly, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Teresa Francis, Marion, and Brenda (Rob) Schwarze, Marion; son, Kevin (Debbie) Boen, Westfield; grandchildren, Amy (Damien) Gallegos, David (Abby) Francis, Staci (Nate) Woods, Sean (Sam) Schwarze, Erin (Dan) Johnson, Kyle (River) Boen; great-grandchildren, Hallie and Harper Francis, Rylan and Aden Schwarze, Mackenzie Woods, and Nora Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Gary Francis; brothers, Dane (Jean) Love, Earl (Gerry) Love, and Lyle (Betty) Love; and sister, Deardra (Bill) Nelson.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Darlene’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at South Marion Friends Church, 5308 S. Harmon St., Marion, IN. Pastors Rob Schwarze and John Petty will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory.
