Dana Alan Gunyon, 65, Marion, died at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in his home. He was born in Marion, IN, to the late Walter L. and Carrie (Marshall) Gunyon. He married Pamela Purvis on September 4, 1971, and she survives.

Dana started working for Bell Fibre in 1969 and retired in 2005 after 35 years as a machine operator. He played in many different bands as a drummer starting in 1966. Dana loved art, particularly ceramics, jewelry making, and sculpting. He liked Star Wars, the Colts, and I.U. Basketball, with Bobby Knight being his favorite coach. Dana attended 1st Landmark Baptist Church.

Dana will be remembered as the coolest Dad ever. He was always encouraging his children and grandchildren, and he loved his family very much.

Dana is survived by his wife, Pamela; children, Dane A. (Melissa Riddle) Gunyon, Marion, and Dawn A. (Justin Bensel) Gunyon, Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Drake O. Gunyon, Deissy A. Gunyon, and Luca R. Bensel; siblings, Terry Fortner, Henryville, Samuel Purvis, Boise, ID, Vonna Waddell, Winston-Salem, NC, and Tracy Purvis, Fort Wayne; close friends, Shirley and Louie Hodge, Marion; many very special cousins; and his loyal companion dog, Lex Luther.

In addition to his parents, Dana was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen Bramlett, and father- and mother-in-law, Rollie (June) Purvis.

Friends and family may call from 12-2 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park in Marion.
