Cynthia “Cindi” Jo Hopkins, 55, passed peacefully in her Gas City home at 3:06 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. She was born in Marion to Robert “Bob” and Madeline “Mat” (Foley) Wright. She met her husband, Dan Hopkins, in Rumney, New Hampshire, at a Christian camp in 1982. They were happily married in 1985, and he survives.

Cindi was a student at Mississinewa High School but graduated in Los Fresnos, Texas, from Los Fresnos High School. She had a Bachelor’s in Religious Studies and two minors in Accounting and Music. In 2011, she received an Associate’s in Nursing and became a licensed registered nurse. She worked at Century Villa in Greentown and, in her off hours, would play the piano for the residents. She began playing the piano at the age of five and became a very accomplished pianist. She served on the mission field in Brazil, South America, for eight years, where she formed strong friendships including her Brazilian family, Chico (Dalva) Maciel, Ray (Karina) Maciel, and Junior (Flavia) Maciel. She was passionate about gardening, cast iron cooking, the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, and Birkenstocks. She loved her husband, her children, and her grandson fiercely.

Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Dan; her parents, Bob (Mat) Wright, Gas City; her children, David (Amanda) Hopkins, Pendleton, and Hannah (Ian Kacala) Hopkins, Fort Wayne, Gabrielle (Jakob) Harris, Gas City; two brothers, Stephen (Leah) Wright, Brownsburg, and Paul (Tricia) Wright, Lafayette; grandson, Daniel Hopkins, who referred to Cindi as “JoJo”; mother-in-law, Angeline Chambers, Anderson, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Pam (Johnny) Boling, Lancaster, South Carolina; and brothers-in-law, Tim (Kirk Simpson) Hopkins, Anderson, South Carolina, and Sammy (Ashley) Hopkins, Belton, South Carolina.

Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, Eldon (Montrue) Wright, and maternal grandmother, Lucy Wintrode.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery.
