Colene E. Porter, 95, formerly of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:55 am, Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. She was born October 28, 1921 in Peru, Indiana to George and Elizabeth (Brice) Wilson.
Colene was a 1939 graduate of Peru High School. She married Paul Porter in Phenix City, Alabama, on August 25, 1942; he died October 2, 1997. She owned and operated Colene’s Beauty Shop on State Road 124 West. Colene enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, going to auctions, and collecting and painting gourds.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (John) Scott; granddaughter, Sarah Patton; and three great-grandchildren, Silas Perkins, Mackenna Patton, and Hadley Patton, all of Kokomo; and her sister, Pat (Jim) Ahlfeld of Dry Ridge, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ron and Milford Wilson, and two sisters Lovelle Peas, and Arvella Meyers.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 9:30 – 10:30 am Thursday at the funeral home.
