Clyde Eugene Swafford

Clyde Eugene Swafford, 80, Marion, passed away in his home at 4:28 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017, with his wife by his side. A lifelong resident of Grant County, Clyde was born in Gas City to the late James Clarence and Virginia (Lanham) Swafford. On April 9, 1974, he married Judy Drake, and she survives.

Clyde attended Mississinewa High School and worked for Glass Container Company in Gas City until its closure. He then became employed with Grant County Highway. Clyde was a great gardener, and he loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family. He was especially close to his dog, Bresea, who was his buddy and companion. Clyde attended Center Chapel UMC.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; sons, William E. Swafford, Jonesboro, Michael N. Swafford, Jonesboro, Anthony W. Swafford, Jonesboro, and Dayne C. (Bonita) Swafford, Jonesboro; step-children, Michelle (Keith) Gallion, Marion, and James (Melissa) Mitchell, Somerset, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jessica, Casey, Abbey, and Justin Swafford; and siblings, Joanna (Roger) Lee and William (Susi) Swafford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Vondel N. Swafford; step-son, Timothy Mitchell; sisters, Glenda Jacks and Deanna Spaulding; and brothers, Lloyd, James, and Michael Swafford.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Clyde’s life will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
