Charlotte J. Childers, 79, Marion, died at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016. at Marion Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Center. She was born in Marion, IN, to the late Murza and Goldie (Miller) Jones. On March 11, 1956, Charlotte married Merrill H. Childers, and he survives.
Charlotte was a 1955 graduate of Marion High School. She worked in shoe sales for CNH Shoes and Hart Shoes and previously worked for Foster Forbes and RCA. Charlotte worked for the Rescue Mission and always enjoyed her time there. Reading, camping, doing crafts, watching church TV programs, and listening to Gospel music were just a few of Charlotte’s favorite things to do. She especially loved her grandchildren and her special dog, Cody.
Survivors include her husband, Merrill; children, Cindy Lou (Bernie) Childers, Warsaw, Julia K. (Mike) Stevens, Marion, and Brian H. (Tammy) Childers, Marion; grandchildren, Erica (Shadel) Brading, Brooke (Lee) McCreary, Taylor McClanahan, and Brandon Childers; great-grandchildren, Dylan Brading, Dawson Brading, Camron Stewart, and Izaiah Young; brother, Leonard Jones; special niece, Carolyn Bailey; special friend, Sue (Giles) Kreps; and her beloved dog, Cody.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her sisters, Pauline Lee, Betty Marshall, and Marjorie Hall.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. There will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday at Grace Community Church.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Grace Community Church, 1810 E. Bradford Pike, Marion, IN, with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Entombment will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
