Charles “HENRY” McFarland, 74, Gas City, went to be with the Lord at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016, following injuries he suffered from an automobile accident in Howard County. Henry was born in Corbin, KY (Whitney Co.), to the late Charles Melton and Rose (Harp) McFarland. On June 3, 1995, he married Velma (Franklin) Pherson, and she survives.

Henry graduated from Eastern High School, Greentown, in 1959. He was the Owner/Operator of Henry’s Marathon in Kokomo for 35 years before he retired in 2007. New Hope Baptist Church in Gas City was where he attended.

When Henry knew of anyone who had a need, he did whatever he could to help meet that need. He was known for his extreme generosity, and he truly exhibited the love and compassion of Christ to others. Henry enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, woodworking, making furniture and crafts, and fishing. He also enjoyed and sponsored Sprint racing. Above all, Henry loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Julie (Jeff) Hull, Avon, Kenneth (Erica) Pherson, Carmel, Sue (Jim) King, Arkansas, and Tamela Oglageo, Kokomo; grandchildren, Adam (Jamie) Earnheart, Megan (Jonathan) Blank, Kali (John Bryant) Warren, Zachary Roper, Isaac Gearhart, Marissa Gearhart, Brandi Pherson, Courtney Pherson, Ashley Pherson, Tori Pherson, Ashley Hull, Tyler Hull, Kimberly (Nathaniel) Aaron, Cindy (Steven) Crosno, Shawn (Gary) King, Kelly (Greg) Duckworth, Shelby Simpson, Casey Simpson, Josh Simpson, Stephanie Murray, Nick Oglageo, and Brieston Anderson; great-grandchildren, Charlie Madison Blank (Henry’s namesake), Ezekiel Tchividjian, Khamari Rogers, and numerous other grandchildren; and sisters, Katie Butler and Ruby (Ray) Wilson.

Also preceding Henry in death were his daughter, Jane Earnheart; brothers, Junior Ward, Clifford McFarland, Norman McFarland, and Mark McFarland; and former wife, Joyce McFarland.

Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at New Hope Baptist Church, 800 E. S. C St., Gas City. Services to celebrate Henry’s life will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Tim Hewitt officiating.
