Carolyn S. McKamey (82) went to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Blair Ridge in Peru, Indiana. She was born on October 15, 1933 to Truman L. and Edna L. Bunnell (Binkerd) in Peru, Indiana. She was a graduate of Butler Township High School, and she also completed her undergraduate studies in Education at Ball State, and her Master’s in Education at Manchester College. She married her husband of 62 years, W. Dean McKamey, on February 14, 1954. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and her husband.

Carolyn worked as an elementary school teacher for 35 years, and retired from Elmwood Elementary School (2nd Grade) in 2001. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Peru, and was also involved in various community organizations including the Sigma Beta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma sororities, and the Peru Art Club. Carolyn was a lover and supporter of local art and music functions, and enjoyed attending community concerts by the Peru Circus Band and the Swamp Water Stompers, and other groups, as well as playing the piano, singing, and playing in the hand bell choir at her church.

Carolyn was a loving wife, and mother of three, and grandmother. She is survived by her children: Thomas (Gina) McKamey (Carol Stream IL), Peggy (Daniel) Gingrich (Logansport IN), and Steven (Barbra) McKamey (Peru IN); four grandchildren: Mark (Jaci) McKamey (Wausau WI), Claudio McKamey (Carol Stream), and Faith and Elijah McKamey (Peru); and by her two siblings, Dolores (Ronnie) Wildrick (Peru), and, Truman Bunnell Jr. (Peru). She also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 14 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru, and the funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church of Peru on Friday, April 15 at 11:00am, with Pastor Bob Adelsperger officiating.
