Caroline J. VanAlstine

Caroline J. VanAlstine, age 82, of Roanoke, IN, passed away peacefully in her sleep the evening of Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Coventry Meadows Nursing Home, Fort Wayne, IN. She was a longtime resident of Janesville, WI before moving to Roanoke to be closer to her daughter and family in 1999 when her husband Richard retired.  She retired from SSI Technologies, Janesville.  She enjoyed her euchre playing and league bowling with family there. She belonged to Seminary United Methodist Church, Roanoke.    She was involved with watching her grandson’s sport activities when he was a young boy.  She was a constant collector of knick-knacks, especially statues of dogs, cows, and deer.  She enjoyed sewing.

Caroline was born May 7, 1935, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Ralph and Kathren Perry.  On January 9, 1960 she married her beloved husband of 57 years Richard “Dick” VanAlstine in Janesville and he survives in Roanoke.  Also surviving are a daughter Kathren Cherry of Roanoke, a grandson Steven Richard (Dakota) Cherry of Huntington, 4 brothers Donald (Suellyn) Perry of Janesville, Ronald Perry of Janesville, David Perry of Janesville, and Gary (Deborah) Perry of Huntington and a sister Betty (Kimio) Hirano of Florence, KY.

A memorial service will be held Thursday October 19 at 6:00 pm at Seminary United Methodist Church, Roanoke, with Pastor Dick Bunnell officiating.   A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.  Burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Janesville.
