Carl Joseph Wold

Carl Joseph Wold, 77, of Peru, passed away peacefully at 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Kokomo.

He was born in Radisson, Wisconsin on April 23, 1940 to Arthur C. and Josephine A. (Berhausen) Wold. As a child, he spent time swimming, hunting, fishing, skiing, ice skating, and doing other outdoor activities in Winter, Wisconsin.  He graduated from Winter High School in 1958.  After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 3.5 years as a specialist 4th class.  During this time, he served in Colorado, Texas, and Germany.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4.5 years as a boatswain’s mate 3rd class on the U.S.S. Stormes, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  Missions include recovery of Mercury Atlantis 5 (recovery of the space capsule containing the first chimpanzee, Enos, to orbit the Earth), the naval blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and serving during Vietnam conflict.  While in the Navy, he traveled to 4 continents and 27 countries.

On April 3, 1965, he married Nina R. (Tolley) Wold in Peru.  After his military service, he moved to Peru, where he raised his family and retired from Square D after 38 years.  He was a very dedicated husband, dad, and grandpa and loved his family more than anything else.  He was a loving, fun, caring, hard-working man who loved joking around and would rather be out playing in the yard with the kids than sitting inside with the adults.  He loved hunting, swimming, working on derby cars with his son, and was involved in any activities his family was involved in.

His deep love for his family was unconditional.  He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He loved his siblings and regarded each of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children.

Survivors include his wife Nina; daughter Tammy Murphy; son Thomas Wold; seven grandchildren Stephanie Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Erin Murphy, Ashley Wold, Tara Wold, Bridget Wold all of Peru, Clarissa Watts and her husband Victor of Oregon, Ohio; one great grandchild Ehrann Watts, and two identical twin boy great grandchildren on the way; siblings Robert Wold and wife Mildred of California, Constance “Connie” Johnson and husband Donald of Florida, Joan Dunaway of Arizona, Richard Wold and wife Lanette of Mississippi, Donald Wold of Texas, and Patricia Anderson and husband Steve of Texas; five sister-in-laws Betty Tolley, Florence Tolley, Rose Meives, Judy Stogsdill, and Mary Sarver; 1 brother-in-law Phil Tolley and wife Beverly; and numerous nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Arthur Wold; in-laws Samuel Tolley and wife Agnes; sister-in-laws Nancy Hummel, Etta Mae Wold; and brother-in-laws Samuel Tolley, Ronald Hummel, Ernest Meives, and William Dunaway.
