Billy W. Atkinson, 79, of Peru, passed away at 7:28 A.M., Sunday, July 10, 2016 at his son, David’s home in Peru. He was born in New Castle, IN on December 1, 1936 the son of Hubert and Dorothy Atkinson. Billy married to Carolyn S. Finnegan in Peru on December 22, 1973 and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2013. Billy was a 1954 graduate of New Lisbon High School and has been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame at New Lisbon High School. He was a US Air Force Veteran and was employed by Chrysler Corp. for 42 years as a Machine Supervisor retiring in 1998. Family was very important to Billy, he was a faithful husband, a devoted father and compassionate friend to all who knew him. An avid outdoorsman, he thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by a son, David Atkinson and his wife Rosanna of Peru, grandchildren Joseph Phillips, Alyssa Atkinson and Victoria Atkinson and a sister Catherine of Richmond, IN. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carolyn and brothers, Junior and Joseph Atkinson. A service celebrating the life of Billy W. Atkinson will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main Street, Peru with Pastor Phil Bunce officiating. Burial will be at Ever Rest Memorial Park, Logansport with Military Graveside Services provided by Members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M., Thursday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.
