Billy Gene Bevington, 88, of Peru, passed away January 22, 2016 at 8:15 a.m.

He was born October 18, 1927 in Peru to Otis and Joeanna Bevington. He married Helen Louise Graf on Jan. 10, 1948. She preceded him in death.

Billy was a World War II army veteran serving as a supply truck driver in Japan. He worked on the Northfork and Southern Railroad, former Wabash Railroad, as a fireman, carman, roundhouse and wreck foreman for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed farming, playing cards and listening to bluegrass and southern gospel music. While raising his family, he liked to go boating, camping and horseback riding. He was a member of the Moose, Maennerchor, and Eagles. He attended Zion Chapel Church.

Billy is survived by his three daughters, Colleen Kinzie and husband Larry, Mary Sharp and husband Ken, and Teresa Williams and husband Gary, all of Peru; seven grandchildren — Amber (Josh) Whited, Ryan (Heather) Kinzie, Natasha (Nathan) Minns, Amber (Auner) Lopez, Brian (April) Sharp, Shawn Williams, and Scott Williams, plus 14 great-grandchildren. Also Jean Zimmerman, a special friend survives.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, Harold, and Robert and two sisters Roena “Della” Townsend and Pauline Mussal.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 10:00am at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home with the Pastor Rod Correll Sr. officiating. Burial will be at the Santa Fe Cemetery, with military service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Home Health Care/Hospice.
