Betty Z. Ebert Celebrating a Special Life, April 22nd, 1928 – February 20th, 2016 Betty Ebert, life-long resident of Peru, Indiana, and a devote servant of God and His Son Jesus Christ, gracefully entered into the Heavenly Father’s eternal peace on Saturday, February 20th, 2016. Betty was born in Peru on April 22nd 1928 to Isabel Kelly Hann and Robert A Hann. She was the younger of Robert’s and Isabel’s two children. Her brother, Robert W Hann, a veteran of World War II who served in the US Army Signal Corps; he predeceased Betty in 1994. She graduated from Peru High School in 1946, and attended Butler University before returning to Peru for the rest of her life. Betty Hann married her PHS Sweetheart, Herbert A Ebert, on November 27th, 1949 at the Methodist Church on West Main Street in Peru. They were husband and wife for 53 years and a few days before Herb’s untimely death on December 5th, 2002. This remarkable Woman was a devoted Grandmother, Mother, and Wife. Her Grandchildren – Angela, Grant, Sierra, and Andrea – were the love of her life especially in her later years, her happiest moments, her joys. Grandma Ebert considered herself blessed with her Grandchildren, who each brought her happiness with every visit, every special event, every letter, every card, and every phone call. Likewise, her Grandchildren returned her love for Grandma in their own special ways. And Betty was a fantastic Mom to sons Michael and Joel. Father Herb imparted his talents in engineering, machining, and business to his sons, and Mother Betty gave them her values of faith, respect, equality, humility, and dignity. Together, Betty and Herb’s strengths were complementary foundations to Joel and Michael, which they in turn passed on to their children. Betty and her paternal Sister-in-Law, Carolyn Ebert Barnes, who also survives Betty, have for over 50 years forged a special relationship. Both Betty and Carolyn viewed each other as Mother – Daughter, a bond, which it was, and is, and will remain. Betty loved God’s creatures small and great and the beauty of this Earth God created for us. During her years as Mother to her two sons, “Mom” gave caring love for her companion pets ranging from a Parakeet, to numerous stray cats and dogs. Later in life, she became an avid bird watcher who had great joy observing native Indiana wild birds, especially small Finches and Sparrows. These wild birds gave her much comfort and joy especially in the final months of her life. A memorial celebration of Betty’s life and her acceptance into eternal life with God and His Son Jesus Christ will be held at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home on West Main Street in Peru on Friday, the 26th Day of February, 2016, starting at 4:00 PM and commencing at 5:30 PM. Betty’s family wants that this memorial will be filled with happy moments and stories. Rev. Ron Bowland, who has given Betty/Mom/Grandma exceptional pastoral ministry, will open the celebration with brief reflections of a remarkable life lived and an even more special life beyond. Pastor Ron will offer Betty’s favorite Bible verses, and a short prayer. Family and those attending are encouraged to share their own reflections on her remarkable life. Those who cannot attend in person may offer happy moments or silent thoughts from wherever you may be. The family of Grandma-Mother respectfully request that in lieu of flowers and other temporal offerings that if you are so inclined instead donate whatever you wish to Peru Grace Brethren Church “in Loving Memory of Betty Ebert” so that this Church will continue its ministry to God’s will and the needs of the Peru, Indiana Community.
