Betty Louise Shaffer, 95, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Colonial Oaks Health Care Center in Marion. She was born in Gas City and was a lifelong resident of the area.

On July 23, 1938, Betty married Jack Shaffer. She worked at Crossroads Restaurant as a waitress and previously at Hills Department Store, where she was a sales clerk. Betty attended Grace Community Church and was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary in Gas City. She enjoyed going to garage sales, especially to find gifts for her grandchildren, and was a teddy bear collector. Betty liked line dancing when she stayed in Florida and also had a special love for little children and dogs.

She is survived by her loving husband of 78 years, Jack; her sons, Jerry (Betty) Shaffer, Stone Lake, Wisconsin, and Roger (Judy) Shaffer, Selma, Indiana; brothers, Bill Burnworth, Lagro, and Tommy (Judy) Burnworth, Lagro; grandchildren, Keith, Leah, Terry, and Dina; great-grandchildren, Adam, Chloe, Hunter, Savannah, Tyler, Ryan, Sarah, and Janel; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and good friend, Sandy Florea.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Clara Mae (Heath) Burnworth; brother, John Burnworth; sisters, June Speelman, Mary Rife, and Sue Ellen Burnworth; and several friends.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the funeral home with Rev. Howard Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
