Barbara Jean Bishop

Barbara Jean Bishop, 88, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, in Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was born in Marion on January 31, 1929, to the late Charles and Bernice (Burnson) Galligan. Barbara married Marvin L. Bishop on February 27, 1953, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death in 2012. She was an active member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church (previously St. John’s Lutheran Church), where she was a member her entire life.

Barbara worked at the Emily Flinn Nursing Home as a beautician and activities director. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Chorus Group for many years. She liked watching IU and Purdue basketball, Colts football, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafts, painting, and gardening. Barbara and Marvin traveled all over the United States camping, fishing, and enjoying each other’s company in a marriage that lasted 59 years. Barbara was a special lady, who was the caretaker for her parents, as well as for her beloved husband.

She will be sadly missed by her sons, Brad (Debbie) Bishop, Gas City, and Bret (Paula) Bishop, Markleville; four grandchildren, Brittany (Chris) Flaig, Fort Wayne, Breanna (Stephen) Jeffries, Gas City, Brant Bishop, Shirley, and Blaine (Rory) Mannering, Granville, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren, Bradley and Camden Flaig, and Claire and Jemma Jeffries.

The family will receive visitors from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor James Hileson officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
