Barbara J. Martin, 86, Gas City, went to be with the Lord at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016. She was born in Wabash, IN, to the late John and Phyllis (Fisher) Bloxson. In August of 1951, Barbara married James David Martin, and he preceded her in death in March of 2001.
Barbara was a graduate of Wabash High School and received her Associate Degree in Nursing. She retired from WIC in 1996 and was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church in Marion.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, knitting, cross-stitching, writing cards and letters, and canning. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed watching college basketball, especially IU and Notre Dame.
Those surviving Barbara include her daughter, Jessica (Kirk) Thompson, Marion; sons, Phil (Laura) Martin, Wabash, Jay Martin, LaFontaine, and Jeff Martin, Nappanee; sister, Diana Farris, TN; grandchildren, Brad Martin, Stephanie (Mike) Knueve, Amber (Allan Knight) Martin, Jeremy Martin, Abby Martin, Cory Martin, Tiffany Martin, and Sara (Osie Blackwell) Stanger; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband, preceding Barbara in death was her daughter-in-law, Lisa Martin.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.
