Barbara B. (Burnett) Stookey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born on April 17, 1935 in New London, Missouri to the late Fred H. Burnett and Olivia (Waters) Burnett. Barbara graduated from Central High School, Memphis, TN in 1953. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1957, Barb took her first teaching position in Denver, Colorado, where she met her husband, Larry of 59 years. They settled in Larry’s hometown of Fairmount where Barb soon began teaching in Marion and Elwood. Barb also taught school at Point Isabel and retired from Liberty School in 1997 after nearly 40 years of educating and enlightening countless young minds. She completed her Masters Degree at Ball State in 1967 . Barb attended Jones Chapel Church in Jonesboro since 2007.

Barb is survived by her husband, Larry, two daughters; Leanne and Linny; a grandson, Jeremy, a brother, Tom Burnett, Florida; brother-in-law Darrell Stookey; and the beloved family pet, Cooper.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana, where the family will receive friends on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 2-7 PM. Funeral service celebrating Barb’s life will begin at 7 PM with Pastor Dave Kahkola officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Grant County Humane Society or the Bridges to Health in care of the funeral home.
