Barbara A. (Ward) Wagler, age 91, Peru, IN passed away on June 14, 2016 at St. Vincent’s hospital, Indianapolis, IN. She was born October 14, 1924 to Marion G. Ward and Ethel Mm (Beamer) Ward in Peru, IN.

At age 12 on February 12, 1936, Barbara was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes going on to a life well lived on insulin for 80 years—with the help of her village of family and friends. Her exceptional achievement was recognized by the 75 year Journey Award from Eli Lilly and the Joslin Victory award, becoming the 52th person world wide to receive this recognition. She lived an extraordinary life enjoying ordinary activities.

In 1943 she graduated from Peru High School followed by working as an abstractor at Wabash Valley Abstracting.  Moreover, she was a remarkable seamstress. On September 30, 1951, she married the love of her life Milford R. Wagler in Peru First Christian Church.

Barbara loved the crazy havoc of family life, which for her, included many friends of all ages. In addition, she was a proud member of Eastern Star, Onward Lier’s Club, and Friday Night Card Club; however, her true passions were her kitchen garden, flowers, and family.

Barbara is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Milford Wagler, her son Michael Wagler, her daughter Kim Wagler Ziner. Grandchildren: Katherine, Travis, Jennifer, Emily, Holly, Kain, and Blane.  Great grandchild: Lindsey, Sidney, Sage, Tegan, Libby, Jackson, Logan, Layla, Tessa, Natalie and Emily.

Please join her family in a celebration of her life at Flowers-Leedy Funeral home June 21, 2016 from 500pm-700pm.
