On Monday, April 10, 2017, Arville Oren Mannies passed away after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease.

Born on December 30, 1937, Arville was the son of Nellie Jane (Kerschner) and Charley Mannies.   He married Frances Lee Bender on July 15, 1956.  Along with Frances, Arville is survived by their 2 children, Wayne (Jane) Mannies, and Vickie (Darrell) Medley, Peru.  Their grandchildren, Becky (Josh) Ulery, Ben (Allison) Mannies, Ashley Appleton (Kyle Underwood), Jeremy (Courtney) Appleton, Chad Mooney (Chelsey Jones), Shanna (Craig) Stoll, Jenny (Jon) Cole, Brandon Medley and great- grandchildren Jordyn and Lukas Ulery, Conner Appleton, Gabe and Faith King, Alivia Zell, and Jaxon Cole survive him as well.

Arville was well known in Peru for his exceptional carpentry skills leaving a legacy of dozens of well built homes and countless remodels. Mostly though, his playful teasing kept customers returning, made friends of strangers, and lifelong companions of friends.  It was that profession that led him to become a master woodcarver.  Always active, he had many interests.  He passionately and patiently restored several Cushman motor scooters, and a John Deere tractor and bulldozer.  He loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, and most of all horseback riding.  He was a member of the Masons for many years.

Arville was very proud of his military service.  He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, Company C 6th training Battalion.

Arville was preceded in death by his sister Betty and brothers Raymond, Harold and Robert Mannies.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 4pm – 7pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  On Friday, April 14, 2017 there will be a private family service at 9:00am at the funeral home followed by a military graveside service at 10:00 am at Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Indiana for family and friends.
