Arthur Butler was born in Gas City, Indiana, at the home of his parents, Raymond and Doris Butler. He was the oldest of three children and made his entry into the world on April 22, 1939. His eternal life began at 5 p.m. on August 14, 2016, in Glendale, Arizona, at the age of 77.

Arthur was a 1958 graduate of Mississinewa High School in Gas City, Indiana. After high school, he served with the U.S. Army for nearly three years. He then worked at Fisher Body in Marion, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1972.

On August 19, 1967, he married his college sweetheart, Nancy Denney. In January 1973, Arthur, now known as “Art”, and his wife, Nancy, began serving as missionaries for World Gospel Mission. Both had teaching degrees and, in December, they moved to Arizona to teach Native American students in a mission boarding school. For 25 years, Art was one of the high school English teachers. He retired in 2008 after 35 years but continued to be involved on a limited basis as long as he could.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Doris Butler, in 1997, his brother, Timothy “Tim”, in 2006, and sister, Nina, in 2008.

He is survived by Nancy, his wife of nearly 49 years, three sons, Stephen (Kristi), Scott, and Shane, and two grandsons, Joshua and Zachary.

A Celebration of Life service for Art will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Eastview Wesleyan Church, 414 N. 10th St., Gas City, Indiana, with Rev. Mark Atkinson and Dr. Doug Carter officiating.

Local arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
