Arnold “Smitty” E. Smith, 82, Marion, went to be with the Lord in his residence at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016. He was born in Logansport, Indiana, to the late Paul and Mary Magdalene (Moore) Smith. On February 23, 1957, Arnold married Melba Flowers, and she survives.

Arnold was a 1952 graduate of Logansport High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1952-1955, serving during the Korean War. Arnold was an inspector for General Motors for 41 years until his retirement, and he attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist in Marion.

A man of few words and a friend of many, Arnold was a true sports enthusiast. He loved football, baseball, basketball, golf, and boxing. He was an avid biker and would ride his bike about 20 miles or more daily with his wife. They also loved spending time sitting on the front porch together. Breakfast in general was his favorite meal, but he especially enjoyed dining at IHOP. He also enjoyed traveling by AMTrak. Music was also a big part of his life, especially jazz music.

Survivors include Melba, his wife of 59 years; son, Brian Smith, San Diego, California; daughter, Terri Jones, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jamaal, Jarris, Jacquin, Whitney, and Jaylon; great-grandchildren, Akayla, Londyn, Mykah, and Isabella; and several cousins.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his brothers, Harrison and Kenneth Smith.

Visitation for Arnold will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion. Services will begin at 12 noon with Rev. C.L. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Logansport.
