Anita T. Costin, 87, of Peru, passed away at 8:00 A.M., Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Blair Ridge Health Campus. Anita was born in Chicago, IL on October 1, 1929, the daughter of Joseph H. and Isabel A. Collins Costin. Anita grew up in Peru and attended St. Charles Grade School. She was a graduate of St. Angela Academy in Morris, IL, received her B.A. degree from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame and her Master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. Anita was an elementary teacher for 49 years, teaching in Illinois, Michigan and Indiana, retiring from the Peru Community School System. Anita was a devout Roman Catholic, a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church and a former member of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She was an active member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of Sigma Delta Pi Sorority, the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, the Miami County Historical Society and the Miami County Chapter of the Indianapolis State Symphony Society. Anita is survived by a sister, Mary Costin of Peru, brothers John M. “Jack” Costin of CA, William C. “Bill” Costin of Mishawaka, IN and Robert “Bob” Costin of CA; nieces Colleen (Terry) Sandusky, Anastasia Holland (Kenneth) Harnden and Allyce Holland (Jim) Bour; nephews Daniel J. (Sharon) Scott and Collins Costin; several great nephews and a beloved cat, Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Gloria Costin Scott, a brother J. Patrick Costin, one nephew Patrick Scott, her dog Rusty and several beloved kitties. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Anita T. Costin will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, 58 West 5th St., Peru with Rev. Adam Mauman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru. There will be a Prayer Service at 8:00 P.M., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands or the Scratching Post Cat Rescue.
