Andrew “Doodie” B. Johnson, 95, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 8:27 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Marion General Hospital. He was born in Elkton, TN, to the late Fason and Vona (Brooks) Johnson. On September 10, 1947, Andrew married his sweetheart, Maxine Robinson, and she survives.

Andrew served in the U.S. Army until 1944. He lived in Crosskey, AL, where he was a cotton farmer until 1953. That same year, he and Maxine moved to Marion, IN, and he began working at Foster-Forbes as a machine operator for 30 years until his retirement in 1984. He attended First Baptist Church in Marion and was a member of American Legion Post #368 in Van Buren.

Throughout his life, Andrew put his hand to countless tasks and hobbies. He loved to farm, fish, and work in his garden, and then, in turn, enjoy eating the fruit of his labor. He was a faithful follower and supporter of Marion Giants basketball. Andrew loved people and, therefore, surrounded himself with others, especially his family and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was always ready to tell stories to whomever would listen. He will be best remembered for his ornery but loving nature, as well as his generosity.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, survivors include his children, Andrew Dwight (Cindy) Johnson, Michael (Diana) Johnson, Sandy (Steve Arrendale) Hendey, Kay (Paul) Topping, and Jeff (Vicky) Johnson, all residing in Marion; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Jean (Sonny) Wilson; very special friend, Waylon (Sharon) Faulk; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous other special friends.

Also preceding Andrew in death were seven brothers and one sister.

Friends and family may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Additional visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Services for Andrew will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016, with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Marion.
