Alvin F. “Bud” Ambler, 91 of Huntington passed away at 11:47 am on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at The Heritage of Huntington. Bud was a 1942 graduate of Huntington High School. He attended Huntington College and finished his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering at Tri-State University. He was a U.S. Air Force WII veteran; he was a B-24 bomber pilot from 1942 – 1946 and was in the Air Force reserves from 1946 until his retirement in 1969 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded 4 bronze battle stars. He belonged to the Reserve Officers Association. Bud had worked at ITT Electron Optics Lab in Fort Wayne for 36 years where he worked on projects for NASA, some of which are now on Mars, the moon and in deep space. He was a member of the St. Peter’s First Community Church and he enjoyed woodworking.

Bud was born on July 9, 1924 in Huntington, the son of Alvin C. and Isabell (Merriman) Ambler.

He was united in marriage to Ardith E. Reed on May 26, 1944. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1990. He later married Evelyn L. Nichols in May of 1992; she preceded him in death on April 9, 2009.

Survivors include a son: James (Ann) Ambler of Huntington; a daughter: Judith Paris of Carmel; a daughter-in-law: Barbara Ambler of Virginia Beach, VA; two stepdaughters: Julie (Karl) Owen of North Royalton, OH; JoAnn (John) Snobarger of Bakersfield, CA; 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son: Fredrick Ambler.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Richard Strick officiating.

Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made out to St. Peter’s First Community Church or to American Heart Association both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
