A. Elaine Smith, 89, Brooksville, Florida, died in her home at 10:29 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. She was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, to the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Cousins) Hewitt. On November 30, 1947, Elaine married Robert Franklin Smith, and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Elaine was a 1945 graduate of Sweetser High School. She retired in 1971 from Hills Department Store, where she was a store clerk. Elaine was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Chapter #94 in Marion, as well as a member of the former Matron Club in Marion.
Elaine was an avid reader and took great interest in donating to libraries and churches. She enjoyed a good laugh, doing crafts, and making chocolate pies and egg noodles. She loved her family dearly and would help in any way possible. She will be greatly missed by them, her friends, and her dog, Buffy.
Survivors include her daughter, Randilyn (Richard) Cochran; grandchildren, Eric (Theresa) Smith and Alicia (Glen) Bradley; great-grandchildren, Allen (Christine) Cochran, Sarai McWhirter-Smith, and Chelsea McWhirter-Smith; and great-great-grandchild, Cadence Pavey-Cochran.
Also preceding her in death were her son, Robert Bradley Smith, and great-grandson, Adam King.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity, Marion.
