Teamwork is the key to any success Wabash County communities experienced the past year.

That was the major theme Wednesday morning as representatives from Wabash County and its five incorporated communities spoke at Grow Wabash County’s State of the Community Breakfast at the Honeywell Center’s Legacy Hall.

The community spokesmen outlined successes their respective municipalities had in 2017, and looked at plans for 2018.

For example, Roann Clerk-Treasurer Bob Ferguson spoke of the town receiving $1 million in grants for various projects around the community, including a total repaving of the town.

He also touched upon receiving funds to help with the upcoming demolition of the former Roann school building.

Meanwhile, Lagro representative Richard Monce spoke of funding the Lagro Canal Foundation received from Wabash County to help with a building rehabilitation project it is undertaking.

Chalmer “Toby” Tobias, North Manchester Town Council president, spoke on a variety of topics, including a housing project planned for the community, while LaFontaine Town Board member Janet Pattee noted that the town is in the black for the first time in more than two years, thanks in part to a rate increase which the board had to impose on residents.

Mayor Scott Long reported, among other things, that the City of Wabash is fiscally sound and that it is under the max tax levy for the first time in a number of years.
